Can You Cheat the NFA Firefighter Tests?
Every shortcut people describe for an online test assumes a screen and an empty room. The National Firefighter Ability tests give you neither.
They are printed booklets and answer sheets, handed out and collected in a fire service room by a trained administrator, and you cannot talk, ask for help or leave the room.
There is no screen, so there is nothing to work around
Almost every shortcut people describe for an assessment assumes it runs in a browser: another tab, a second device, someone else at the keyboard, an answer key found on a forum. The National Firefighter Ability tests are not on a screen at all. You sit them on paper, with question booklets and an optical-mark answer sheet, at fire service premises, and an administrator reads the standardised instructions aloud before each test.
The papers are not in circulation
The tests are Crown copyright. The practice booklet that services still host is marked "confidential and is not to be reproduced or distributed without the express permission of Communities and Local Government", and the live question booklets, the answer key and the feedback text went to services separately. What you can find online is the practice booklet's own example questions, which show the format and nothing more.
If your test is online, it is a different test, and often a re-tested one
Most fire and rescue services now sift wholetime applicants with a vendor's online tests, and some still call them the national firefighter tests. Those have their own defences, covered on our Test Partnership, Talogy, SHL and Arctic Shores pages. And several services check an online result under supervision later: Northumberland re-tests after interview, Cambridgeshire and Dorset and Wiltshire re-test at a later stage, Mid and West Wales holds a verification session, and South Yorkshire proctors its online tests. A candidate who had help at home meets the same kind of test again in a room.
What working on it actually looks like
The honest route is short. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, so answer everything. Practise reading gauges, tables and charts and doing two or three steps of arithmetic by hand. In Understanding Information, answer from the document alone and watch for one added word, such as "immediately", that makes a statement false. In Situational Awareness and Problem Solving, remember it is marked: people most at risk come first, safety is not traded away, and hazards are reported straight away. Our NFA practice tests give you each test at full length on its real clock, and all three in one session.
Integrity is part of what is being assessed
The national firefighter qualities that the whole selection process is built around include Commitment to Diversity and Integrity. A firefighter is trusted in people's homes and with their safety, so dishonesty at the first stage is not a shortcut to the job; it is a reason not to be given it. There is nothing on the other side of that trade worth having.
