PTS Rekrytering: Alva Tests and Interviews

Post- och telestyrelsen publishes its whole recruitment process in eight steps. The tests come third, for everyone who meets the requirements, and Alva Labs supplies them

Who is tested
Everyone who meets the requirements
What is tested
Communication style and logical problem solving
Time
About 20 to 40 minutes in total
Interviews
Usually two, competency-based
From 1 January 2027
Part of Digitaliseringsmyndigheten
PTS becomes Digitaliseringsmyndigheten in 2027
PTS’s current job ads say that on 1 January 2027 PTS and Digg, the Agency for Digital Government, merge to form Digitaliseringsmyndigheten. The process below is PTS’s as published in November 2026. The new agency may change it, so check the ad you apply to.

The eight steps

PTS’s recruitment page, last updated in November 2025, sets out the process in order:

1
Ansökan
Apply to an advertised vacancy. PTS does not accept unsolicited applications.
2
Urvalsfrågor
Screening questions tied to the role’s requirement profile. Some ads use these instead of a cover letter.
3
Arbetspsykologiska tester
Everyone who meets the requirements takes the tests: communication style and logical problem solving, about 20 to 40 minutes in total.
4
Kompetensbaserade intervjuer
Structured interviews using the S-B-R model. Most candidates have two, usually one digital and one in person.
5
Arbetsprov
A work sample, when the role calls for one.
6
Referenser och bakgrundskontroll
Two references, at least one a former manager, plus a background check.
7
Anställningserbjudande
The job offer.
8
Återkoppling
Feedback on the process.

The order matters. Screening questions come before the tests, and the tests come before any interview, so you sit them before you meet anyone from PTS.

The tests, and who supplies them

PTS’s page describes the tests by what they measure and does not name a supplier. Alva Labs does: its case study, published in April 2026, says PTS “uses Alva Labs’s personality assessments and logical ability tests as part of a structured, multi-method evaluation”. The two areas on PTS’s page match Alva’s two tests: the Logic Test for logical problem solving and the Personality Test for communication style.

One detail is specific to PTS. Rather than a new profile for every vacancy, PTS scores candidates against a small set of predefined profiles built with Alva, which Alva says reflect PTS’s security requirements, Swedish public-sector values and internal culture. The case study frames the change as making recruitment “less dependent solely on CVs”.

  • Logic Test. Matrix puzzles, one at a time, each with its own two-minute limit. A task that runs out counts as wrong, so always submit a guess. Our abstract reasoning guide covers matrices.
  • Personality Test. No clock and no right answers. Our personality test guide explains the format.
Recent results can be reused
PTS says that if you have recently taken the test, you can reuse your results. Alva lets you share results under 24 months old with a new employer. If you sat Alva’s tests for another employer recently, that may save you a sitting; your invitation will show what can be shared.

The interviews: S-B-R

PTS runs competency-based interviews on the S-B-R model: you describe a situation, your behaviour and the result. It is the Swedish name for the same idea as the STAR method, so prepare four or five real examples that each end in a concrete outcome. Most candidates have two interviews, usually one digital and one in person. Posts in security class 2 are always interviewed in person.

Security-classified posts

Some PTS posts are placed in a security class; a current jurist vacancy is one. For those, PTS says the reference and background step can include a security vetting interview (säkerhetsprövning), a records check (registerkontroll) and a requirement for Swedish citizenship. The ad tells you if the post is security-classified.

Students

PTS has no trainee programme. It advertises internships and degree project places (praktikplatser and examensarbeten) before every term.

Practise the tests

Our Alva Labs practice hub explains how both tests are scored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does PTS use Alva Labs?

Yes. Alva Labs’ April 2026 case study names PTS’s personality and logical ability tests, and PTS’s own page describes the same two areas at step 3.

Does everyone take the tests?

Everyone who meets the requirements, according to PTS. The screening questions at step 2 decide that.

Will this change when PTS becomes Digitaliseringsmyndigheten?

Possibly. Nothing published yet says how the merged agency will recruit. Read the process section of the ad you apply to.

CogniPrep is an independent practice platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to PTS or Alva Labs. Our tests are independent simulations, not the real assessments. This page draws on PTS’s recruitment and student pages, its current job ads and Alva Labs’ published case study, as they stood on 5 November 2026; confirm the details in the ad you apply to.
