CVS Health Assessment: Virtual Job Tryout

CVS Health says it screens over a million job applicants a year, and for many of its high-volume roles one of those screens is the Virtual Job Tryout. Here is what CVS itself says about the VJT, and how to prepare for a format it does not describe in detail.

What the CVS Health Assessment Is

CVS Health’s hiring FAQ calls the Virtual Job Tryout, or VJT, a step in its interview process. It says CVS screens over a million job applicants a year, considers experience, job-related skills and interview performance, and uses the VJT to evaluate applicants for many of its high-volume roles. The hiring-process page puts it more simply: some roles may require a virtual job tryout as part of the application.

If your role needs one, you launch it from a task on your Candidate Home page in Workday after you complete your application. That task is the clearest sign the VJT applies to you.

Who makes it
The Virtual Job Tryout is a registered product that HireVue has owned since it bought Modern Hire in 2023. CVS Health does not name HireVue, but the help-ticket link in its VJT FAQ goes to HireVue’s candidate help center.

What It Contains

CVS Health does not publish the sections of its VJT, and we are not going to invent them. What we can tell you is what other employers say their Virtual Job Tryouts contain, in their own candidate guides:

  • Scenario questions set in the job, often answered by choosing the response you would be most and least likely to give. See our AT&T guide for a call center example.
  • A task that resembles the work, such as checking records while listening to a call or comparing product details against a reference.
  • Questions about your background and work experience.
  • Work-style statements about how you prefer to work. See our Capital One guide for a four-module example.

Each employer’s VJT is built around its own jobs, so expect the general shape above rather than those exact tasks.

The CVS Health Hiring Process

  1. Search. By career area, job title or location.
  2. Apply. Click Apply Now and follow the prompts.
  3. Review. CVS reviews your application. This is where a VJT appears if your role requires one.
  4. Interviews. If you are selected, CVS arranges next steps, which could include a phone call or a video interview. Our STAR method guide covers the behavioral questions most interviews include.
  5. Offer. You get an email asking you to log in to Candidate Home when the offer is ready. Pre-hire steps include a background check and a Form I-9 completed with a third-party agent over video.

CVS also gives applicants free access to resume and interview practice resources through Intoo, linked from its hiring-process page.

Is There an Answer Key?

No. CVS says it uses the VJT to be fair and objective, and a test built for that does not reward memorized answers. In the VJTs other employers describe, scenario questions are scored against what works in the job, background and work-style questions describe you, and the work tasks reward accuracy. What helps:

  • Read the job description first, so you know what the role values: customers, patients, accuracy, or speed.
  • In scenarios, pick the response that solves the person’s problem and stays within the rules.
  • Answer questions about yourself honestly and consistently. Trying to fit an imagined ideal profile tends to produce contradictions.
  • Use a computer with a stable connection and a screen of at least 1024 by 768. The help center CVS links to lists that as the minimum.

Where CVS Health Hires

CVS says the VJT covers many high-volume roles but does not list them. Your Candidate Home task is what tells you. The main areas it recruits in are:

  • CVS Pharmacy stores: store associates, shift supervisors and managers
  • Pharmacy: pharmacy technicians and pharmacists
  • Customer service and call center roles across CVS Health and Aetna
  • Distribution centers
  • Clinical, corporate, technology and early-careers roles

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CVS Health use HireVue?

CVS Health names the Virtual Job Tryout, which is a HireVue product, and its VJT help link goes to HireVue’s candidate help center. CVS does not name HireVue on its own pages.

How do I start my CVS VJT?

Through a task on your Candidate Home page in Workday, after you finish your application. If no task appears, your role may not require one.

What if the VJT does not work?

CVS’s FAQ links a help-ticket form for VJT problems. Use that rather than your recruiter for technical issues.

Are your tests the real CVS Health assessment?

No. They are independent practice exercises in the same formats. They contain no real test items and are not supplied, reviewed or endorsed by CVS Health or HireVue.

CogniPrep is an independent practice platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to CVS Health or HireVue. CVS Health and Virtual Job Tryout are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here for identification only. This page rests on CVS Health’s hiring-process page and FAQ as checked in November 2026. Hiring processes change and vary by role, so confirm what your own process involves with whoever invited you.
