Can You Cheat Clevry Tests? Your Time Is Shown
A Clevry report shows the employer how long you took next to everyone else’s time, whatever your score.
Time is not scored, but it is printed beside your sten, and a strong score in a slow time is the pattern outside help tends to leave. A verification re-test uses different questions.
Your time is printed on the same line as your score
Most cheating advice is about finding answers. The problem on a Clevry test is what happens after you have them. Clevry's Ability Test Report, the one an employer reads, gives each test its own paragraph, and each paragraph states three numbers side by side: the time limit, your time, and the average time, with the share of candidates who finish. Clevry is careful to add that completion time "is not an indication of ability", and it does not score it. But it prints it.
That is a problem for any shortcut, because every shortcut is slow. Looking something up, asking someone else, or typing a passage into a chatbot all take time the honest candidate spends reading. On the Enhanced verbal test the limit is 9 minutes and the average is 7. A result in Clevry's top band that used all 9 minutes is not proof of anything, but it is the pattern outside help tends to leave, and it sits on the page next to the score for anyone who wants to look.
Every question on a page has to be answered before you move on
A Clevry ability test is a set of pages, each a passage or a table with a group of questions, and the platform will not let you leave a page until every question on it has an answer. You can change answers while you are on the page. Once you press Next, the page is gone.
That removes the two moves a shortcut usually depends on. There is no skipping ahead to come back later with help, because an unanswered question locks the page. And there is no review screen at the end to fix a page after the fact. Whatever you do on a page, you do in the time you spend on it, and that time is on the report.
A strong unsupervised result can be verified
Clevry's tests are sat online without a supervisor, and Clevry says so to the employer. Its report advises that "a more detailed measure ... should be made at a later stage of the selection process using a supervised psychometric test", and that results "can be verified online using the Clevry ability verification facility". Verification tests are "a shorter version of the original ability test ... using different questions".
So an inflated score does not simply become your score. It becomes a number that a later, shorter test with different questions may or may not repeat. The only preparation that moves both numbers together is the kind that changes what you can actually do.
The personality questionnaire is built to notice
The Clevry Personality Questionnaire has no right answers: Clevry says the scores "do not measure ability, skills, capability or competence". What employers do with it is compare your profile with one written for the role. Two features make shaping it hard. A Social Desirability scale, made of statements almost nobody can honestly agree with, tells the employer when a profile looks too good to be true. And each trait is measured by six statements, about a third of them worded the other way round, so a candidate playing a part has to keep the part consistent across the whole questionnaire.
Clevry's own advice to candidates is plain: answer as you are at work, and "Don't be indecisive", but equally "Don't be overly decisive".
What actually moves a Clevry result
- Know your level. The word in brackets on your invitation, Essential, Enhanced or Expert, is a different test with a different clock. Practise that one.
- Master Cannot Say. On the verbal test it is right whenever the passage does not settle the statement, and on the numerical test it appears as a fifth option on some questions and is right only when a figure is genuinely missing.
- Bring your own calculator. Clevry allows one on the numerical test and does not put one on screen.
- Spend the time you have. These are power tests. Finishing early earns nothing, and checking a page before pressing Next is where marks are saved.
