About Medline and Wonderlic

Medline is one of the largest privately held manufacturers and distributors of medical supplies in the United States, selling to hospitals, surgery centres, care homes and other healthcare providers. Because it both makes and distributes product, its hiring spans two quite different worlds: a large industrial and logistics workforce — warehouse and distribution-centre associates, order pickers, forklift operators, drivers, manufacturing and quality staff — and a substantial commercial organisation of field sales representatives, account managers, customer service and corporate functions.

Medline appears in Wonderlic's own published customer logos. That is a first-party source, which puts it on better footing than the candidate anecdotes most employer-plus-test pages rely on. It also lands in the middle of Wonderlic's natural territory: high-volume operational hiring where a short standardised screen is attractive, and commercial hiring where employers often want a read on more than aptitude alone. What the logo does not tell you is set out next.

What We Know, and What We Do Not

Being explicit about the limits of the evidence is more useful than a confident guess.

  • What is sourced.Medline is listed among Wonderlic's published customers, so the commercial relationship is first-party and not in doubt.
  • What is not sourced: the product. Wonderlic Select bundles cognitive ability, personality and motivation and can be used whole or in parts. Nothing published tells us which components Medline uses.
  • What is not sourced: the roles. Distribution-centre hiring, driver hiring, field sales hiring and corporate hiring are separate pipelines with different stages, and a vendor logo does not say which of them it belongs to. It is entirely possible for one job family to be tested and another not to be.
  • What is not sourced: the cutoff. Thresholds are set by the employer and essentially never published. Under Select the cognitive result is also combined with the other components according to a job profile Wonderlic builds from O*NET occupational data, so there is no single number to aim at even in principle.

Prepare for the Wonderlic format because it is the most likely thing you will be sent, and let your invitation email settle it. If the invitation names a different provider, practise that one instead.

What to Expect

Wonderlic publishes the format of each Select component, so this part holds regardless of which one you are sent.

  • Cognitive ability 50 questions in 12 minutes, mixing simple math, basic logic, language comprehension, spatial reasoning and pattern identification, getting progressively harder as the paper goes on.
  • Personality— a Five Factor questionnaire on five scales Wonderlic labels Cooperation, Dependability, Stress Tolerance, Sociability and Open-mindedness. Wonderlic states that Dependability and Stress Tolerance are the most predictive of performance across nearly all roles.
  • Motivation— a RIASEC interest inventory: 58 forced-choice questions in about 20 minutes, three work tasks per question, pick the one you would most prefer, with no least-preferred selection.

The motivation component is worth a thought at a company like this one. It measures what kind of work you want rather than how well you do it, and a distribution-centre role and a field sales role are genuinely different kinds of work. Wonderlic also weights the three components by job profile using O*NET data, so the same set of answers is read against a different profile depending on the job you applied for.

How the Cognitive Test Is Scored, and What That Means for Strategy

Wonderlic does not score the cognitive test by counting correct answers. It weights each question by its difficulty and by the impact of guessing, stating that this is more precise than a raw total. Because the questions also get progressively harder, the marks are back-loaded into the stretch of the paper most candidates never reach.

  • Pace is the whole game. Twelve minutes across 50 questions is 14.4 seconds each, the tightest per-item budget of any assessment we cover. A minute spent settling one early item is roughly four later, more heavily weighted items you never get to.
  • Which items you get right matters, not only how many. Weighting means identical totals need not produce identical scores, which is why “how many out of 50 is a pass” is the wrong question in the wrong unit.
  • Treat guessing formulas as invented. Wonderlic says its weighting accounts for the impact of guessing but does not publish how, so nobody outside the company can price a blind guess. The defensible strategy is to keep moving so the heavier items come within reach.

If you have prepared for a Criteria CCAT, note that this inverts one of its habits: the CCAT is a raw count with no penalty, so items are interchangeable there and cheap marks are cheap wherever they sit. Not here.

Where Medline Hires at Volume

These are the role families Medline recruits into continuously. Short screens are attractive at exactly this volume, which is the context for the Wonderlic relationship — but the grouping below describes Medline's hiring, not a published statement about which roles are tested.

Distribution and Manufacturing

  • Warehouse and distribution-centre associates
  • Order pickers and forklift operators
  • Drivers and transport operations
  • Manufacturing, packaging and quality

Commercial and Corporate

  • Field sales representatives and account managers
  • Customer service and inside sales
  • Supply chain, planning and procurement
  • Finance, technology and sales development programmes

Employers change assessment vendors between hiring cycles, and a company that both manufactures and sells will not run one process for everything. Confirm the assessment for your specific role with the recruiter who contacted you.

How to Prepare

Rehearse the pace, not the content

At 14.4seconds a question, no individual item is hard; the clock is what makes them hard. A full-length timed run teaches the skill that actually pays — recognising in a couple of seconds that an item is not going to resolve.

Get the practical arithmetic fluent

Percentages, ratios, unit conversions, averages and one-step algebra all appear. These are also the numbers that run through a distribution or sales role — case quantities, margins, pick rates — so the practice is not wasted once the test is over.

Spend your time where the weights are

Difficulty rises through the paper and the weighting follows it, so the early items are the cheap ones. Set an abandonment rule before you start and hold to it, so that under pressure you are following a decision rather than making one.

Answer the questionnaires honestly, including the motivation one

There is nothing to revise and no profile to engineer. The motivation inventory in particular is asking what kind of work suits you, and engineering a preference for work you do not want is how people end up in the wrong job at the right company. Managing your answers halfway through also produces exactly the internal inconsistency that shows up in the output.

Take it in one uninterrupted block

A 12-minute test gives you no stretch in which to recover a lost minute. One screen, notifications off, twelve genuinely clear minutes — not on a break, and not on a phone in a car park.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Medline definitely use the Wonderlic?

Medline appears in Wonderlic's own published customer logos, so the relationship is first-party and solid. Which product, for which roles, and at which stage are all unpublished. Medline does not document its assessment process, so treat the Wonderlic as the likely format and confirm with your recruiter.

I am applying to a distribution centre. Will there be a test?

We cannot tell you that for your specific application, and any page that claims to is guessing. Short screens are common in high-volume operational hiring and Wonderlic is a Medline vendor, so it is plausible; a distribution-centre process may equally consist of an interview and a shift tour. Your invitation is the only reliable guide.

What score does Medline need?

No threshold is published. The cognitive score is weighted rather than a raw count, so a target expressed in questions-correct would be the wrong unit, and under Select the cognitive result is combined with the other components using a job profile built from O*NET data. A warehouse role and a field sales role could clear on quite different combinations.

Is a 12-minute test worth preparing for?

Yes, more than a long one. At 14.4 seconds a question, every second spent decoding an item comes off your score, and familiarity converts directly into speed. It also lets you practise the decision that decides the result: when to stop working on something and move.

Are your tests the real Medline assessment?

No. Everything here is an independent simulation written to reflect the published format and timing of the Wonderlic components. It contains no real test items, is not supplied or reviewed by Wonderlic or Medline, and produces our feedback rather than an employer report.

CogniPrep is an independent practice platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Medline, Wonderlic, Inc. or any other employer or assessment provider. Medline, Wonderlic, Wonderlic Select and WonScore are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here for identification and descriptive purposes only. The association between Medline and Wonderlic on this page is based on Wonderlic's own published customer logos; it does not establish which product or score threshold applies to any particular role. All tests on this platform are independent simulations, are not real assessments, and are not supplied, reviewed or endorsed by those organisations. Employers change assessment vendors, so confirm the exact assessment for your role directly with the employer.
