LCL Recruitment Test Practice

LCL names AssessFirst on its own recruitment page. What the online test measures, where it sits in the process, and why your first attempt is the one that counts

What LCL says

LCL, the Crédit Agricole group’s national retail bank in France, publishes its recruitment process on its own site. After you apply online, it says, you will be invited to take an online personality test assessing "votre personnalité au sens large, vos motivations et vos capacités de raisonnement": your personality in the broad sense, your motivations and your reasoning abilities.

LCL advises putting yourself in the best possible conditions and answering spontaneously, and suggests taking breaks between the questionnaires. Afterwards you receive a summary of your results. If your application goes forward, the next step is an interview with HR, where you discuss "les résultats de votre test Assessfirst", then an interview with an operational manager, and then a decision.

What the AssessFirst test is

LCL does not name the individual questionnaires, but the three things it lists are exactly what AssessFirst’s three questionnaires measure, so expect all three:

  • SWIPE, your personality. 75 pairs of captioned images; you swipe towards the one more like you at work. About five minutes. No right answers.
  • DRIVE, your motivations. 90 pairs of statements; you pick the one that would motivate you more. 8 to 12 minutes. No right answers.
  • BRAIN, your reasoning. An adaptive test of figure sequences in which you build each missing figure from pieces, with up to three minutes a sequence and a Pass button. Usually 8 to 12 sequences in about ten minutes.

AssessFirst reports each on a 1 to 10 scale compared with a large reference population, and compares the profile with the role. On SWIPE and DRIVE neither end of a scale is better. On BRAIN higher is better, and an employer can set a minimum level; LCL does not publish one.

Your first attempt is the one LCL sees
AssessFirst results belong to your account, stay valid for a year and are not reset on a candidate’s request. So do not open an AssessFirst account to have a look before your LCL invitation: that produces your real profile. The same profile is shared with any other AssessFirst employer you apply to in the next twelve months.

How to prepare

Spend your preparation on BRAIN, the only one of the three with right answers. Most free material online describes the BRAIN test AssessFirst retired in 2020, with tables and word analogies. Today’s is purely figures: follow one element across the row at a time, say what the missing figure must contain before you drag anything, and check that every part of the rule is in the slot before you submit. Our AssessFirst practice hub has a free, generated BRAIN test with the same build, Reset and Pass controls.

For SWIPE and DRIVE, follow LCL’s own advice and answer spontaneously, as you are at work. The HR interview discusses your results with you, and a profile you recognise is much easier to talk about than one written for an ideal banker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which test does LCL use?

AssessFirst. LCL’s recruitment page names "votre test Assessfirst" and describes an online test of personality, motivations and reasoning straight after you apply.

Does the test decide whether I get an interview?

LCL says access to your results is essential for deciding the next step, and that unsuccessful candidates are told by email. Successful candidates go on to an HR interview in which the results are discussed.

Can I take it on my phone?

Yes. All three AssessFirst questionnaires run on a phone. BRAIN needs a browser with WebGL; if one device cannot run it, AssessFirst suggests trying another computer or a phone.

Can I retake it if it goes badly?

Not for a year, unless the recruiter asks AssessFirst to reset it. Prepare before you start, not after.
