Gemeente Amsterdam Assessment Practice
Amsterdam’s assessments are run by LTP. What that means for your application, what an LTP online scan contains, and what the evidence does and does not say
What we can evidence
LTP, the Dutch assessment bureau, published an article on 28 October 2025 about its work for the city. In its own words: "Sinds 2024 werkt de Gemeente Amsterdam samen met LTP als vaste assessmentpartner", a fixed assessment partner since 2024. The article names management and critical positions, customer-facing roles and IT recruitment as current uses, with traineeships and talent programmes planned.
An older LTP article, from February 2021, describes LTP running the selection of the city’s handhavers, its enforcement officers: an online assessment testing the competencies and behaviour the role needs, followed by selection days in which LTP was closely involved.
What an LTP online scan involves
LTP’s assessments almost always begin with an online scan in its own portal. You receive an invitation by email, activate your account and choose a password, and the portal lists the components and the deadline. For many roles, especially management ones, a day with an LTP psychologist follows, in which your online results are discussed and placed in context.
- Capacity tests. LTP publishes its own: the G-test, the Abstracte Matrix test, the Verbale Relaties test, the Numerieke Vaardigheden test and the Cijferreeksen test. Which of them you meet depends on the role.
- Only correct answers count. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, so put an answer on every item. The tests are built so that few people finish.
- Judged against the job’s level. Your number correct is compared with people tested at the level the role needs (mbo, hbo or wo), not with your own diploma, and against a score the employer sets.
- A computer, not a phone. LTP does not allow capacity tests on a phone or tablet.
- Questionnaires. LTP’s standard personality questionnaire uses the Big Five, and it has a work-styles questionnaire reported as Werkstijlen. Neither has right answers.
How to prepare
Practise the capacity tests at their real lengths and clocks, because the skill that moves an LTP score most is pace: moving on from an item that has not given up its rule and coming back to it at the end. For the questionnaires, answer as you are: the psychologist will discuss the profile with you, and a profile you cannot explain in that conversation does more harm than an honest one.
If you need adjustments, such as extra time for dyslexia, tell the city before you start: the employer can ask LTP for an adapted programme.
