Civitas Senior Living Assessment Practice
The Predictive Index case study on Civitas is specific in a way most are not: candidates complete the Behavioral Assessment, and the interview that follows is built from the result. Here is what that means for how you answer.
What the Case Study Says
Civitas Senior Living is a Fort Worth based operator with communities across Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Colorado, Arizona and Oklahoma. The Predictive Index published a case study about it in June 2020, during a period of high-volume hiring, and it is refreshingly direct about who sits what.
In PI’s words: “From there, the team had candidates complete the PI Behavioral Assessment™. A two-question, six-minute survey, the BA provides insight into a person’s workplace behavior.” It goes on to describe what happens next: “Using PI Interview Guides generated by the software, Ormsbee-Hale equipped hiring managers with key questions that would help pinpoint job fit.”
Anthony Ormsbee-Hale, VP of People Operations, is quoted on the effect: “Instead of doing 10 interviews for a position, I might only have to do four. And that’s a huge time saver for our managers.”
The PI Behavioral Assessment
The Predictive Index describes the format as two questions over one shared list: candidates “are presented with two questions, each pertaining to a single shared list of adjectives.” The first pass asks which words describe how others expect you to behave at work. The second asks which describe who you really are. PI states the assessment is untimed and takes about six minutes.
PI describes it as untimed and as a six-minute survey in the same breath, which sounds contradictory and is not: there is no clock stopping you, and six minutes is simply the average. Take longer if you want to. Nobody is scoring your speed.
Results are reported on four drives, in PI’s own descriptions:
- Dominance– how a person naturally approaches control, independence and decision-making on the job.
- Extraversion– how people communicate, persuade and engage with others.
- Patience– how someone prefers to manage time, pace and change.
- Formality– how strongly a person seeks structure, rules and precision in their work environment.
Is There a Cognitive Test Too?
The case study does not mention one, so we are not going to tell you there is. For reference, PI sells a cognitive test that employers often pair with the behavioral one: 50 questions in 12 minutes across verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning, scored on the number answered correctly, with candidates expected to complete as many as they can rather than finish. If your invitation names a timed test, that is what it is likely to be.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fail the Behavioral Assessment?
Not in the pass-or-fail sense. It reports where you sit on four drives, which are compared against a target profile for the role. The same profile can fit one job well and another poorly.
How long do I actually get?
There is no time limit. PI says it is untimed and averages about six minutes. Taking eight does not count against you.
Does this apply to every Civitas community?
The case study describes the approach at the operator level during a 2020 hiring push. It does not break the practice down by community or role, so treat it as documented rather than guaranteed for your specific application.
Are your tests the real Civitas assessment?
No. These are independent practice exercises matching the published format. They contain no real test items and are not supplied, reviewed or endorsed by Civitas Senior Living or the Predictive Index.
