Albert Heijn Sollicitatie and Assessment Guide

What Albert Heijn asks at each level, from a bijbaan in one of its 1,270 stores to a distribution centre teamleader, and the situational judgement test Harver built for its store applications

Documented in 2018 and 2019 for store applicants

How Albert Heijn hires for its stores today

Albert Heijn’s own vacancies, read in November 2026, describe the same four steps for store jobs such as servicemedewerker kassa or vulploegmedewerker:

1
Solliciteren
Apply through werk.ah.nl.
2
Gesprek
If you fit the profile, the store invites you for a conversation in the store, usually quickly.
3
Mogelijkheden
Together you look at working hours and which position suits you best.
4
Welkom
If both sides are enthusiastic, you can start soon.

None of those store listings mentions a test. You must be at least 16 to work at the till, and some listings say the job is offered by an independent ondernemer running a franchise store, so the details can vary by store.

Where Albert Heijn does name a test

That role leads a team of 15 to 30, asks for an hbo werk- en denkniveau and an age of 18 or over, and works day, evening and night shifts in distribution centres that run seven days a week.

Albert Heijn does not name the publisher
Neither listing says whose cognitive or personality test it is. We could not find a source that does, so we do not claim one. If your invitation names a publisher, that is the one to practise for.

If you are heading for one of these roles, practise the general formats. Our guides to cognitive ability tests, numerical reasoning and personality questionnaires explain what a capaciteitentest and a persoonlijkheidstest usually contain.

The Harver situational judgement test

Harver, the Dutch-founded hiring software company, published a case study on Albert Heijn in October 2018 that is still on its site. It describes a store application in which candidates give their availability, preferred stores, functions and weekly hours, then “run through a few Situational Judgment Tests” and press apply. Interactive videos showed the day-to-day job in each department. Harver says the whole application took a little over ten minutes, store managers saw a matching score with each candidate, and interviews could follow within 24 hours. Applicants could apply to several stores at once.

The award followed: Albert Heijn and Harver won the Recruitment Tech Award 2019 for reworking store hiring with “videomateriaal en voorbeelden van werksituaties”. The Financieel Dagblad reported the same year that applicants were shown many situations and asked “wat zou jij doen?”

This is dated evidence
Both sources are from 2018 and 2019. Albert Heijn’s current store vacancies mention no situational judgement test, so you may not meet one. If your application does show you work scenarios, this is the format.

How Harver’s SJT works

  • Each scenario is a short situation at work, often with a video clip or image, followed by “What would you do?” and three to five responses.
  • You mark the best and the worst response. The rest stay neutral, and you cannot continue until you have chosen both.
  • A standard set typically has five to eight scenarios. Harver documents no timer.
  • Harver’s retail SJTs target customer service, communication and problem solving.

Our situational judgement test guide covers how to reason about best and worst answers.

Talent Track for graduates

Albert Heijn’s Talent Track is an 18-month development programme that runs alongside a starter job. It is open to hbo and wo graduates with up to two years of work experience who start in an entry-level role, and includes soft-skill training such as Persoonlijk Leiderschap and Storytelling, shared with colleagues from Etos and Gall & Gall. AH’s page does not describe a separate test for it; check the listing of the job you apply for.

How to prepare

For a store job

The interview in the store is the real hurdle. Know your availability precisely, including weekends and school holidays, and have a short answer ready for why you want to work with customers. If you are shown work scenarios, think like the store manager: the customer is served, colleagues are not left alone with the problem, and rules such as age checks are not bent.

For a leadership or DC role

Expect the cognitive and personality test after your first conversation, and prepare the interview with examples of leading a team on shifts, using the STAR method.

Practise the situational judgement test

Situational Judgement Test (10 minutes) uses Harver’s best and worst format with retail and service scenarios, and is free to play. Our Harver practice hub explains the rest of Harver’s modules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Albert Heijn use Harver?

It did for store hiring, according to Harver’s 2018 case study and a 2019 award. Albert Heijn’s current vacancies do not name a hiring platform, so we cannot confirm it still does.

Is there a test for a bijbaan at Albert Heijn?

Current store listings do not mention one: you apply and are invited to talk in the store. Harver’s case describes short work scenarios in the online application, so be ready for those, but nothing current confirms them.

What test does an Albert Heijn teamleader take?

Albert Heijn says a cognitive and a personality test, and does not name the publisher.

CogniPrep is an independent practice platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Albert Heijn or Harver. Our tests are independent simulations, not the real assessments. This page draws on Albert Heijn’s vacancy pages as read on 5 November 2026, Harver’s 2018 case study and 2019 press coverage; confirm the details with the store or your recruiter.
