Can You Cheat the ASVAB? Scores Are Re-Checked
You can sit the ASVAB at home as the PiCAT, but no score earned without supervision counts until you have matched it in person.
A PiCAT score only becomes your score of record after a supervised Verification Test at a MEPS or MET site within 45 days, and an AFQT gain of 20 points or more within six months triggers a supervised Confirmation Test.
Every unsupervised score meets a supervised one
Most people sit the ASVAB on a test-centre computer at a MEPS or MET site, with an administrator present and no calculator. The routes to a score away from that room, and any surprising jump between sittings, each end at a supervised check.
The questions are not for sale
ASVAB items are controlled testing materials, and the official site says that giving or receiving them carries severe penalties. It also warns candidates directly against anyone claiming to sell real ASVAB questions. A test that is invalidated means a six-month wait before you can sit it again.
A leaked list would not help much anyway. The computer test is adaptive: it starts each subtest at average difficulty and chooses every later question for your ability, so two candidates rarely see the same items.
What actually raises your score
The AFQT, the percentile that decides whether you can enlist, is built from four subtests: AR + MK + 2 × VE, where VE is the verbal score from Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension. The verbal score counts twice, so vocabulary and careful reading carry as much weight as both maths subtests together. Arithmetic is done by hand, because there is no calculator on any version. And on the computer test, questions left unfinished when time runs out are scored as random guesses, so finishing every subtest matters more than racing.
Our ASVAB practice tests adapt the way the CAT-ASVAB does and score you with the published formulas, from a single subtest up to the full ten-subtest battery. The AFQT Predictor Test practice is free. For the arithmetic behind your percentile, read how the ASVAB turns four subtests into your AFQT.
Your scores follow you into the job
Passing the AFQT minimum only makes you eligible to enlist. Your line scores, built from the same standard scores, decide which jobs are open to you. A borrowed score would open a job chosen for aptitudes you would then have to show in training, with no one there to help.
