How Perceptions works
Each scenario describes a situation at work and lists possible actions, and you rate how effective each action would be. Test Partnership’s free sample uses a six-point scale running from Very ineffective to Very effective.
The test is untimed, typically takes around 30 minutes and has 50 to 70 questions. Employers choose a role-specific version, Graduate, Manager, Sales, Admin or Customer Service, and the factsheet says it works on all devices.
How it is scored
Perceptions uses consensus scoring: the effective rating for each action is set from the responses of hundreds or thousands of relevant participants. Results are compared with role-specific norm groups.
In Test Partnership’s free sample, the keyed answer for each action spans two adjacent points on the scale rather than a single point.
How to approach the ratings
Rate each action on its own merits rather than ranking the actions against each other. Two actions can both be effective, and the six-point scale has no neutral middle, so decide first whether an action helps or hurts, then by how much.
With no clock, careful reading costs you little. Read the whole scenario, including who you are and what has already happened, before you rate anything.
How our practice version works
Our version has 12 scenarios with four actions each, 48 ratings in total, on the same six-point scale. It is untimed. Submit stays disabled until all four actions in a scenario are rated, and you cannot return to a scenario once it is submitted.
Each action is keyed to a band of two adjacent points, as in Test Partnership’s sample. Our scenarios and keys are our own, set by us rather than by a consensus panel, so treat the feedback as practice in calibrating your ratings.
