TUI Assessment Practice
TUI runs its hiring on Sova. What arrives in your inbox, what the sitting contains, and the one scoring rule that changes how you should pace yourself
TUI is one of the largest travel groups in the world, hiring across airlines, retail, contact centres, hotels and a head office, in several countries at once. Very little of that hiring names its assessment vendor to candidates, which is why most people arrive at a TUI online assessment with no idea what shape it will be.
What TUI uses, and how we know
Sova Assessment publishes a customer story titled “How TUI transformed their talent strategy with Sova”. That is the vendor naming its own customer, which is the strongest kind of evidence available for an employer-to-provider claim, and it is stronger than the sector guesswork that fills most pages about TUI assessments.
What the story does not do is list which sections TUI has switched on. Sova sells a configurable platform rather than a fixed test, and the configuration changes by role, brand and country. Treat everything below as the menu TUI is ordering from rather than as your exact paper, and confirm the stages for your role with your recruiter.
Three ways to recognise a Sova assessment
The clock you cannot see
This is the single most important thing to know before you open the link. Sova's ability tests carry no countdown by default. Nothing on screen tells you to hurry, and candidates reasonably conclude the test is untimed. It is not. Sova's own practitioner documentation tells the employer that although the tests are not time limited, the time taken to respond is recorded and taken into account in the score.
So the pacing rule is neither “rush” nor “take as long as you like”. Work at a steady, committed pace. Answer, move on, and resist circling back. A wrong answer given quickly buys you nothing, because speed only counts on the items you get right, and a right answer given after four minutes of deliberation is worth less than the same answer given in forty seconds.
What a TUI sitting can contain
Sova's published component list is the realistic universe of what you might meet. In a travel group, the contact-centre and customer-facing bundles lean heavily on judgement and personality, while head office and graduate routes tend to add reasoning.
- Situational judgement. Realistic scenarios where you pick the best and the worst response. Note the format: best-and-worst, not the rate-every-option grid that SHL and Cubiks use.
- A personality questionnaire. Forced ranking across work traits, with no score and no pass mark, plus a separate measure of how positively you presented yourself.
- Motivation questions. What actually drives you at work, matched against what the role can offer.
- Reasoning. Numerical against tables and charts, verbal as True, False or Cannot Say, logical over shape sequences. Available in foundation and advanced versions, so the difficulty is set by the role rather than fixed.
- Checking and accuracy. Spotting errors at speed. Relevant to operational, reservations and back-office roles.
- A video interview, often on the same platform. Sova states that time is not recorded on video sections.
How to sit it
Where the assessment sits at TUI
TUI recruits into distinct pipelines that share very little beyond the brand, so the stage an assessment lands at is different depending on what you applied for.
Cabin crew and airline operations
High-volume, seasonal and heavily judgement-led. Expect an online stage early, used to sift before anyone reads your application closely, followed by an assessment day.
Retail and contact centre
Customer-facing screening, where situational judgement and checking accuracy do most of the work. These are the roles Sova sells its Contact Centre bundle for.
Graduate, head office and technology
More likely to include reasoning at the advanced level, and more likely to add a video interview and a later virtual assessment centre.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the TUI online assessment timed?
Usually there is no countdown visible, and your response time is still recorded and scored on the ability sections. A visible timer is something an employer can switch on, so some TUI deployments may show one.
How long does the TUI assessment take?
Neither TUI nor Sova publishes a length for it, and it depends on which sections are configured for your role. Sova's published Early Careers bundle runs roughly 15 to 30 minutes; a sitting that includes a video stage takes considerably longer. Allow an hour.
Can I retake it if my connection drops?
You can normally resume from the invitation link, which is why Sova asks you to keep the email. A full retake is a decision for the employer, not for the platform, so ask the recruiter rather than starting a second attempt.
Does TUI use the same assessment in every country?
No source says either way. TUI operates as a group of national businesses with their own recruitment teams, and Sova's customer story is about TUI's talent strategy rather than about one market. Treat this page as evidence about the vendor, not about your country.
Practise the exact sections
Our Sova practice hub covers numerical, verbal, logical, situational judgement, personality, checking and learnability, all built to Sova's own mechanics including the recorded-response-time model. If your TUI process also includes a recorded interview, the video interview practice covers that stage.
