Sky Assessment Practice
Sky built its hiring journey on Sova. A section-by-section look at what that journey contains and how each part is actually scored
The evidence for Sova at Sky
Sova publishes a customer story on strengthening Sky's talent pipeline with a hiring journey candidates enjoy. That is first-party vendor evidence, dated only by the fact that the page was live when we checked it. It tells you who supplies the platform. It does not tell you which sections your role has switched on, because Sova sells a configurable assessment rather than a catalogue of fixed products.
Sky hires across broadcasting, engineering, technology, contact centres, field engineering, retail and a large early-careers programme. Those pipelines have almost nothing in common as jobs, so it would be surprising if they shared an identical assessment. Read the sections below as components rather than as a running order.
The components, and what each one is really measuring
Why the personality section is not the soft one
Candidates routinely treat a personality questionnaire as the part they can safely optimise, and at Sky the temptation is stronger than usual because the brand has a very legible public personality. It is a bad trade for a structural reason rather than an ethical one.
Sova's format makes you rank statements against each other rather than agree with each one separately. You cannot be at the top of every trait, because ranking one statement first pushes another down. On top of that, Sova measures and reports the positivity of your self-presentation. A profile engineered to look ideal produces a report that tells Sky your preferences may be less accentuated than the results suggest, which is a polite way of saying the profile has been discounted.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the assessment say Sova anywhere?
Almost certainly not in the branding. Sova sells branded welcome pages, employer colours applied to the assessments and reports, and employer logos inside the test, which is exactly why candidates cannot name the vendor afterwards. The reliable tells are the sovaonline.com address and support links pointing at sovaassessment.zendesk.com.
Is there a pass mark?
Sky does not publish one and neither does Sova. Cut scores are set by the employer per role and per cycle, so any number you read online is somebody's guess. What is worth knowing is that the ability sections adapt as you answer, so an easy-feeling test is not necessarily a good sign and a hard-feeling one is not necessarily a bad one.
Can I use a calculator?
Yes. Sova's own candidate guidance names pen, paper and a calculator for the ability questions. Have them ready before you open the link, because the sitting is continuous.
How should I prepare for the learnability section?
Not by revising, because there is no content to revise. The useful preparation is getting comfortable with the shape of the task: read the rule carefully once, apply it literally, and do not import assumptions from how you think the system ought to work.
