What EIT InnoEnergy uses, and what we can actually evidence

EIT InnoEnergy, the European innovation engine for sustainable energy, appears in a first-party case study published by Assessio, the Stockholm assessment publisher behind Matrigma and MAP. That is a direct, named source rather than an inference from what similar organisations do.

What the case study does not do is name the test. In InnoEnergy's own words, " during the application procedure, when there are around 7 to 8 candidates left, we administer a personality and intelligence test". Assessio's personality instrument is MAP and its intelligence test is Matrigma, so that is the obvious reading, but the source does not say it and neither will we. Prepare for both formats and confirm with your recruiter.

The case study also records InnoEnergy using Assessio's Self Awareness Insights and Leadership Feedback products. Those are development and multi-rater instruments rather than selection tests, so they are unlikely to appear in a hiring process you are in.

The stage is late, which changes how to read it

Most psychometric assessment lands early, as a sift that cuts a large applicant pool down. InnoEnergy's does not. Seven or eight candidates is a shortlist, which means two things.

First, you are already through the parts of the process that were about your CV. The assessment is not deciding whether you are plausible, it is helping choose between people who all are. Second, the result will be discussed rather than thresholded. At that volume a recruiter reads a profile rather than applying a cut score, so a personality questionnaire answered to look ideal is far more likely to be noticed than it would be in a sift of thousands.

Everyone gets a feedback session, including candidates who are rejected

This is the detail worth knowing about InnoEnergy specifically, and it is rare enough to be worth stating plainly. Their case study says they schedule a feedback session with every candidate who completes the assessments to discuss the results, including the candidates they reject.

So if you sit this and are unsuccessful, you should expect a conversation about why, and it is worth preparing questions for it. It also means answering a personality questionnaire strategically carries a specific cost here that it does not carry elsewhere: you may end up in a conversation about a profile that is not yours.

What to expect from the Assessio formats

  • Matrigma is a matrix reasoning test. A 3x3 grid of figures with the bottom right cell missing, six options, one correct. The adaptive version runs 12 minutes overall with a separate 60-second clock on every item; the classic version is 35 items in 40 minutes with one clock.
  • MAP is a Five Factor personality questionnaire: 200 statements, untimed, reported across five factors and twenty-five facets.
  • Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer anywhere in the Assessio range, so always answer rather than leaving an item blank.
  • Speed does not score. Assessio states that the speed of answering does not affect a Matrigma result, so spare seconds are worth spending on accuracy.
  • Your result will be a C-score from 0 to 10, not a percentile. The mean is 5 and the standard deviation is 2. Our Assessio hub explains the band tables, which differ between the two Matrigma versions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What assessment does EIT InnoEnergy use?

Assessio, the Swedish assessment publisher. Its own case study names EIT InnoEnergy and quotes them describing a personality and intelligence test administered at shortlist stage. The case study does not name which Assessio products those are, so confirm the specific test with your recruiter when you receive the invitation.

At what point in the process does the assessment happen?

Late. InnoEnergy says it happens when there are around seven or eight candidates left, so it is a shortlist tool rather than a first-round sift. That is unusual: most employers using this kind of assessment put it at the start.

Will I find out how I did?

Yes. InnoEnergy schedules a feedback session with every candidate who completes the assessments, including those it rejects, which is more than most employers offer. Assessio also builds candidate feedback into some of its products, so you may also receive a report of your own.

Can I fail the personality questionnaire?

Not in the sense of a pass mark. Assessio says there is no such thing as the right personality, and its own derived MAP-X report flags scores at either extreme of a factor as a risk rather than treating high as good. Given that a human will discuss your result with you, answering as yourself is both the honest option and the effective one.
